Yasawa Islands Places of Interests
The well-known film "Blue Lagoon" with Brooke Shields was filmed on location in Fiji and the Blue Lagoon Caves was one of the locations - about 15 kms south of Yasawa Island Resort. The tiny limestone island of Sawa-i-Lau lies just off Yasawa Island and is famous for its underwater cave. From your boat, you swim with a torch (flashlight) through a small opening that connects the large cave to a dimly lit smaller pool. According to Fijian legend, a young chief hid his betrothed here to avoid her being married off to someone she did not want. He brought her food each day by diving into this hidden grotto, until eventually they escaped to another island to be together.
